It’s very strange to think that although the United States is the home of innovative companies and ideas (Apple, Google, Exxon-Mobil, J.P. Morgan just to name a few among the thousands offering great and exciting ideas/products) the US is ranked at #30 for mathematics scores world-wide. Countries such as Australia, Switzerland, South Korea and India have surpassed the grades of students in this country and continue to increase grades exponentially every year.
Appropriately, the coming month of April is Math Awareness Month. As a child, mathematics gives a glimpse to “lifelong learning” skills like organization, counting, asking others for help and much more. It also helps with bettering an SAT score and increasing the likelihood of getting into an ideal job, college or university. Later on in life, the knowledge of mathematics will put individuals at an advantage in any and all industries while improving an individual’s work ethic. Because the frontal lobe of a child doesn’t fully develop until the age of 25, it is never too late to get started in learning mathematics.
