In just a matter of two short weeks, two very deadly mass shootings have shaken the country at its foundation. The first, in Aurora, CO, happened at a crowded movie theatre during a premier screening of The Dark Knight Rises. The second occurred at a Sikh temple in suburban Wisconsin. The shooter for that one had a background in white supremacy culture.
While the nation debates on whether to have an iron-clad position on making it harder to obtain a gun license or making it easier for good citizens to carry a concealed firearm, it is safe to say that we must look at these two events (and other similar events) and move on with a sense of civility for others – regardless of race, gender, religion or other wonderful aspects of life that make for all the unique differences between individuals.
August is National Win with Civility Month – and it couldn’t have come at a better time. This is an opportunity to become a better person – to start anew – by being civil and sincere with those around you. Whether they celebrate a different religion, dress differently or just look/act differently, be sure to lend out a helping hand.
So be sure to print an inspiring message on some promotional products – so Win with Civility Month can be applied all year long. You could even make a new friend.
