Did you know that every two seconds in the United States someone needs blood? This shocking statistic tells us that blood centers are certainly facing a struggle to keep up with demand. Indeed, blood is constantly needed by cancer patients, accident victims, and people with blood disorders. To highlight this need, every year since 1970, Americans have observed National Blood Donor Month; we need to continue to raise awareness about the importance of donating blood.

Many people hesitate to give blood, and that’s completely understandable. Some are afraid of needles, and others think they do not have enough time. But there are simple ways to overcome these obstacles. According to the American Red Cross, one way to get over a fear of needles is to focus on the positive outcome instead of the initial pain: “What most say is that the slight initial pinch pales in comparison to the feeling of accomplishment they get at the end of a successful donation!”
Think you don’t have enough time for a blood donation? Consider this: It only takes one hour every two months. In the past couple of months, have you had at least an hour of spare time? If so, you should consider giving blood!

If you already give blood, perhaps you’re interested in taking it a step further. The American Red Cross has a ton of tips on hosting a blood drive. Doing so would absolutely help raise awareness about our nation’s demand for blood donations. Plus, you can utilize blood donor awareness giveaways to help promote your event.
