National Reading Group Month

Rejoice! Tomorrow is the first day of October. We’ve spent much of September anticipating what to expect from October and we’ll be posting numerous other awareness events for the month of October.

October tends to bring out the cooler weather, keeping even the most active of people dormant indoors. Book clubs are a great activity to socially interact with friends and acquaintances in the surrounding communities while enjoying the lifestyle of reading. This encourages a boost of imagination, a boost of intelligence and a positive mood enhancer.

For these and countless other reasons, the Women’s National Book Association has made October “National Reading Group Month.”

Motivators has plenty of promotional products that are perfect for your reading group meetings. Promotional foods will certainly break the ice and entertain guests, custom imprinted notebooks and custom imprinted pens for taking notes on the finer points of the book and even custom imprinted books for your next meeting.

Dating Matters

Adolescent relationships  are often portrayed in movies and TV shows, such as the CW’s Gossip Girl, as violent and emotional.  We are intrigued by (and often laugh at) the drama that follows these fictional characters.  But might there be some truth behind the media’s violent portrait of teenage relationships? According to The Clothesline Project, an organization that addresses the issue of violence against women, one out of four 14 – 17 year olds have a friend who’s been a victim of dating violence.  That’s why the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is rolling out the beginning stages of its safe dating campaign across America.

 Gossip Girl

The Baltimore Sun reports that the CDC is awarding federal grants to cities across the U.S.  The money is to be used to “develop a program to stop teen dating violence before it happens.”  Grants are being handed out as a part of a CDC initiative dubbed “Dating Matters:  Strategies to Promote Healthy Teen Relationships.”  The plans will be implemented over the course of five years, according to the Baltimore Sun.

The CDC’s five-year initiative will take more money, time and effort than most of our country’s national observances.  But it’s an important step in understanding teen dating violence and how to create a realistic approach to its prevention.  According to The Westside Gazette, “CDC also seeks to build the health department’s capacity to become the primary agent for dating violence prevention programming in Broward County, implementing evidence-based violence prevention strategies as well as identifying risk factors for teen dating violence.”

Think Ahead: National Hot Dog and Sausage Month

There’s nothing that says “summer” more than a barbecue. And some people believe that once summer is over, barbecues end too.

But it doesn’t have to end that way.

October is National Hot Dog and Sausage Month. This month is specifically set-up and designed to keep sales of hot dogs and sausages up right before the winter months.

And to celebrate, Motivators has great deals on custom imprinted kitchen and home gift sets including accessories for the grill and professional knife sets. Motivators also sells promotional knives or even promotional outdoors items for those days that are nice enough to squeeze out a last minute barbecue.

Carry Your Baby Safely

There are so many great products on the market for carrying your little one– slings, infant carriers, and frame carriers are a few.  But did you know that many parents may not use these products correctly?  That’s why each September the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) sponsors Baby Safety Month.  According to the JPMA, Baby Safety Month was first initiated in order to “educate parents and caregivers on the importance of the safe use and selection of juvenile products.”

Baby Safety Month

Baby Safety Month:  A History

JPMA launched Baby Safety Month in 1983 with its ‘Expectant Mother’s Day.’  The initiative originally focused on pregnancy facts and how to prepare for a newborn.  Three years later, the day-long event became a week-long celebration.  Then, in 1991, JPMA sponsored our nation’s very first Baby Safety Awareness Month, which has been celebrated every September since.

 Baby Safety Month Today

In 2011, Baby Safety Month is still proudly sponsored by JPMA.  The organization spends each September focusing on teaching parents how to use soft infant carriers, frame infant carriers, slings, and wraps correctly.  JPMA also reiterates the importance of practicing general safety precautions every day.  The association’s Web site also offers many outside resources for more information on keeping infants safe all year long.

You Can Make a Difference

There are plenty of ways you can help to spread awareness about Baby Safety Month.  For example, you can post an informative fact or statistic on your Twitter or Facebook profile.  If you’d like to help raise awareness to even more people, there are plenty of promotional Baby Safety Month products that will help garner attention for the cause.  However you choose to help will surely make a difference!

American Kennel Night Responsible Dog Ownership Month

Do you carry a photo of your dog wherever you go? Maybe you even have a photo in a promotional photo album on your desk.

If you love your dog and treat your dog well, this is a month celebrating you – the owner.

The AKC (American Kennel Club) is celebrating Responsible Dog Ownership Month. This month is for showing love and compassion for your furry friend while training them to be well-behaved and cordial. The American Kennel Club recognizes the efforts of dog owners and will be hosting this awareness month, which includes a flagship day highlighting the products and services that the AKC is best known for. If you’re in the Raleigh, NC area, definitely try to attend with your pooch. There might even be promotional pet products.

Think Ahead: Polish-American Heritage Month

Imagine what music would be like without the likes of Axl Rose, Neil Diamond, Karen O or even Eminem. Would the Transformers series be that groundbreaking without Shia LaBeouf? What would Hollywood be like without bombshell actresses like Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson? Who would give us the news we seek to hear if Wolf Blitzer, Larry King and Barbara Walters weren’t around?

Polish-Americans have a bigger impact on the world around us than we think.  The list of famous Polish-Americans is rather lengthy and there are tens of thousands making a difference that will never get recognized for their actions.

Luckily, October is a great way to celebrate the Polish-American in your life and to celebrate their heritage. Motivators carries thousands of products that, with the right imprint, will bring a smile to their face. From promotional pens to custom imprinted magnets to custom imprinted golf items, there’s no better way to thank the Polish-American in your life than with a promotional product.

College Savings Month

As a college student who spent the majority of his curriculum as an intern as well as a contributing “expert” for an article in a financial college magazine, I know a thing or two about saving money as a college student. Now that I’ve been out of college for over a year and working at Motivators, I’ve found myself in a teaching role – giving advice to college students who seek it.

Realizing the increased tuition of attending a college or university, the College Savings Plans Network created College Savings Month – a month devoted to saving money for college or saving money aside for collegiate (and extracurricular) expenses.

Motivators is also here to help with some shopping. Custom imprinted electronics are very inexpensive on the Motivators site and there is no such thing as having too many promotional pens. Almost every single promotional item we have in stock is at a large discount – allowing you to use your extra cash for things like late-night McDonalds cheeseburgers and iTunes cards.

You, Too, Can ‘Stand Up To Cancer’

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, and while there are plenty of fabulous breast cancer awareness promotional products to help you spread the word, sometimes a simple t-shirt is all you need to convey an important message.  At least that’s the thought process behind Stand Up To Cancer‘s latest awareness campaign.

The nonprofit is using promotional t-shirts to help raise funds.  But not just any t-shirts– according to People, Stand Up To Cancer is selling a Star Wars-themed line that will also help to celebrate the release of Star Wars:  The Complete Saga on Blu-ray.

And as if the Star Wars name didn’t provide enough star-power for the new collection of t-shirts, the organization has also recruited “celebrities like Emma Stone, Seth Rogan, Zach Galifianakis, Aziz Ansari and more” to help recreate scenes from the saga and help raise awareness for cancer research, reports People.

Library Card Sign Up Month

Remember the excitement of getting a library card at such a young age? The ability to bring home as many books and educational videotapes was just as exciting as picking out a toy at a toy store. And with the amount of times you’ve gone to the library right before closing to pick out information for a book you never read, that library card has been a lifesaver too.

September is Library Card Sign Up Month, a month where libraries are encouraging kids (and kids-at-heart) to sign up for a library card. But what’s a better than getting a library card? How about getting a custom imprinted product with your library card? Imagine the excitement on a child’s face upon getting a shiny, new library card with a shiny, new custom imprinted frisbee.

Think Ahead: Halloween Safety Month

Halloween is one of the most celebrated and most enjoyed holidays in the United States. And if you’re one of the millions that enjoys a little scare, you’ve probably been planning your Halloween for quite sometime. Between the costume, the candy, the decorations, the party and the party favors, a successful Halloween can take months and months to plan ahead.

But what we at Motivators ask for is to also think about safety when enjoying the Halloween festivities. Not that Freddy Krueger will be haunting your dreams or Leatherface will be running around trying to wear your face – just basic Halloween safety.

That’s why the month of October is considered Halloween Safety Month – a month where we are reminded to take just a few minutes out of Halloween to plan accordingly and to keep an eye and an ear out (or an entire face if dressed as the Mayor of Halloween Town) for anything that might be dangerous during that day.

Motivators has many promotional products that would help you with making Halloween as safe as possible. Custom imprinted flashlights and promotional badge lights are perfect for being seen, especially when dressed like Pinhead. For smaller children, there are promotional bags with Halloween stock images that you can imprint reminders on. And for the office, there is promotional candy that will make anyone feel like a kid again.
